Challenges and Prizes

Teams will be asked to participate in a series of three challenges focused around rapidly growing technologies… all connected to the IBM Z mainframe.

Phase I : Meet the Mainframe - Ideation & Concepts:

Phase I : Meet the Mainframe - Ideation & Concepts: The ideation phase was all about validating the team's ideas.

Phase II : Utilize the Mainframe:

Phase II : Utilize the Mainframe: Teams had to show a working prototype that leveraged a tool from at least one of the three technology categories provided.

Phase III: Maximize the Mainframe

Maximize the Mainframe: Teams presented a fully working solution that leveraged a tool from two of the three technology categories. The top finalists then pitched to a Virtual Demo Day to IBM and AngelHack Judges.

Top 3 Teams

First Place,

$15,500 USD:

Team Spot Exchange (https://thespot.exchange)

A portfolio company of EthVentures LLC, is a smart, decentralized, blockchain-based marketplace on Hyperledger Fabric hosted on the IBM Z platform. The Spot Exchange enables people to rent physical locations designated for parking traditional and autonomous vehicles. As a decentralized marketplace, we do not own physical parking spaces, establish asset prices, or set policy. Instead, we serve as the mechanism in which owners of physical spaces connect with short-term or long-term renters, and provide an automated service for executing and enforcing contracts. As a smart marketplace, we leverage IBM?s Machine Learning APIs, in conjunction with our unique and comprehensive marketplace data, to build a self-learning ecosystem that automates key components of the parking transaction, more efficiently connects owners and renters, and provides dynamic, real-time price recommendations or Spotstimates.

Second Place,

$7,500 USD

Team Cognitive Telehealth –

Cognitive Telehealth (http://www.cognitivetelehealth.com) provides an innovative approach to home care collecting data from doctor?s visits, medical devices, wearables, speech and movement analysis under a secure environment using Hyperledger Fabric and providing machine learning and analytics tools to help doctors to define specific treatments for each patient.

Third Place,

$5,000 USD

Team FIBO – Fibo, the Fashion Intelligence Bot

Fibo is a personal online shopping platform using AI & Machine Learning technology; a Recommendation Engine; and a Hyperledger Fabric based shopper rating agency.

Teams of up to 5 participants are allowed. All team members must have completed the participation agreement to compete.
You may not begin your project until the competition officially begins. Please don't come in and build on top of previous projects if you want to win.
You may enter the competition during any of the three phases.
Teams have full ownership of everything they build at our events and are free to do with it as they wish.
Winning teams will be subject to a code-review at some point following the event or immediately before winning.

Blockchain with Hyperledger Composer and Hyperledger Fabric on IBM Z

Hyperledger Project, an open source collaborative effort to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies, is hosted by The Linux Foundation?. Create chaincode for blockchain using the LinuxONE Community Cloud, Hyperledger Composer and Hyperledger Fabric.

IBM Machine Learning + Core Banking/Retail API?s

Infuse continuous intelligence into your enterprise using machine learning + Core Banking/Retail APIs. Leverage high quality self-learning behavioral models to extract hidden value from enterprise data securely, in place and in real time. Unlock valuable systems-of-record assets to access business-critical data via RESTful APIs exposed through IBM API Connect. Create innovative applications utilizing API calls to business operation processes running on a core banking system and simulated retail system on IBM Z.

Open Source Cloud Native Workloads on IBM Z using Docker

IBM Z systems are engineered for secure data serving and modern applications, capable of massive transaction volumes, unprecedented scale and built not to fail or crack – ever. Docker is the leading software container platform that makes it easy for developers and sysadmins to package applications inside Linux? containers. Combine these two technologies along with the increasingly popular MEAN (MongoDB, Express.js, Angular.js, Node.js) stack to Unchain the Frame.

Judging Criteria

Use of IBM Technology (Max 6 points)

Did the team integrate IBM technology into their solution? Two points for each IBM technology (from the ones presented) integrated.

Functionality (Max 5 Points)

Was a working, functional prototype (for round 1, is there a clear roadmap to functionality) demonstrated? How well does the solution perform and meet the purpose described?

Scalability (Max 5 Points)

Does this solution have the potential to have an impact at scale, globally?

Creativity (Max 5 Points)

How creative was the team in developing a unique and innovative solution for the challenge?

Design and Usability (Max 5 Points)

Rate the UX/UI, functionality and ease of use of the solution. For round 1, is there a clear consideration of design and usability.
